What to Do After the Surgery?
Listen carefully to the advice your doctor will give you. Instructions about your recovery process are explained in detail by your doctor. Your doctor will tell you what is inconvenient for you to do for a few weeks after the surgery, depending on your age, health status and physical characteristics. Because heavy activities and intense sports exercises make you sweat, such activities should definitely be avoided. The hair transplant area should be meticulously protected from the sun. It is recommended not to drive a car after the operation. Pain and edema may be experienced in the post-operative period, so regular use of painkillers may be required. Care should be taken in the area where the hair transplant is performed while lying down, so patients are advised to lie on their back. Although the critical level of the situation is over on the 4th and 15th days after hair transplantation, the risk still continues. As a result of the operation, the rate of new hair growth is 30% in the first three months, 60% in the following sixth month, and 100% success in one year from the date of the operation. But of course, patience is required in this process. The growth of new hair depends on certain factors, especially age, lifestyle, genetic factors, and may vary depending on these factors. You should definitely not go to places such as sauna, solarium, hammam for a while. For newly grown hair, processes such as cutting or dyeing should not be applied for a while. In addition, non-abnormal crusting can be seen on the newly grown scalp.
Who Cannot Have Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is one of the most commonly performed surgical operations in the world. The most preferred FUE method is an operation suitable for anyone over the age of 18. However, if the patients have a skin disease in addition to hair loss, sufficient efficiency cannot be obtained from the procedure. Therefore, patients with any other disease should first resolve the relevant situation. For hair transplantation, there should be no physiological diseases and there should be enough healthy donors in the field.
What are the Differences Between Hair Transplant Methods?
Hair transplantation is divided into two basic methods.
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)
The FUT technique, which is the oldest of the hair transplantation methods, is not preferred very often today. It is realized by placing the roots on the scalp, which is drawn from the nape to the forehead and cut in the form of a thin line, in the required area. As seen in other surgical procedures, an incision scar between 8-15 cm and on the back of the neck remains in the FUT technique.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)
In the FUE method, which is more up-to-date than the FUT technique and is the most preferred method in recent years, no incision is made and therefore no surgical scars are formed after the operation. In the FUE technique, the donors taken one by one from the nape area are transferred to the channels in the area where the hair follicles will be transplanted, and hair transplantation is performed in this way. The FUE method also has different methods in itself.
Why Does Hair Loss Happen After Hair Transplantation?
A few weeks after the implementation of the hair transplant procedure, the transplanted hair will fall out. This is normal and expected. The hair follicles, which try to sit in their places and feed on blood, leave their excess load for a while. Shedding hair grows back after 3-4 months. Among the transplanted hairs after this temporary shedding, those whose roots can be adequately nourished will be fully seated and work normally. However, the original hair that already exists in the same area may continue to fall out over time, and a new hair transplant procedure may be planned in the future due to the decrease in hair density again. Hair loss may continue gradually after surgery. If an unnatural appearance occurs in the new hairline area, other surgical procedures can be applied in the future.
